Authorities are investigating the death of a convicted murderer whose body was found in his cell at the Rush City Correctional Facility on Oct. 9, the state Department of Corrections said Friday.

Foul play is not suspected.

Brandon Johnson, 41, was convicted in the 2005 shooting death of his longtime girlfriend and the wounding of the woman's adult daughter and niece. He was found dead in his cell during morning guard rounds.

The cause of death is unknown. Corrections investigators are awaiting toxicology results from an autopsy conducted by the Dakota County Medical Examiner. A spokesperson would not say whether Johnson was alone in his cell or whether suicide was suspected.

Johnson's sentence was not due to expire until the end of 2029. He was convicted of killing his girlfriend, Sheila Hollie, 43, and wounding the other women at a house in the 1800 block of Oliver Avenue N. Johnson had been arrested in 1999 on suspicion of terroristic threats involving Hollie, but was never charged.
