A 2-year-old girl fell from a second-floor window at a hotel affiliated with Grand Casino Hinckley and landed on the concrete floor near the atrium pool, authorities said Sunday.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Hinckley Inn, said Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole. The hotel and the casino are operated by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

Cole said that as of Saturday afternoon, the girl, whom he did not identify, was in serious condition at Gillette Children's Hospital.

The girl's grandmother, a sibling and another adult were in the room at the time, Cole said. There is no evidence of neglect on anyone's part, he said.

"It's just a terrible, terrible tragedy," Cole said.

"The grandmother said she didn't see what happened," the sheriff said. "But out of the corner of her eye she saw [the girl] go out the window."

WCCO-TV, Channel 4, reported that the child loosened a screen, leading to the fall. Cole said his department has yet to confirm that.

Casino emergency medical personnel responded to the incident, requesting an emergency medical helicopter and administering first aid until the ambulance arrived, the casino said in a statement.

"Our hearts and prayers are with the child and her family," the statement added.
