Last update: October 23, 2009 - 10:51 PM

A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbing a TCF Bank in the Uptown area of Minneapolis and using some of the loot to pay for bus fare as part of his foiled getaway.

Herbert Ray Kelly, 42, was sentenced Thursday for robbing the bank at 1444 W. Lake St. on Nov. 12, 2008, one day before his birthday.

According to an FBI affidavit, Kelly handed a teller a note that read, "I have a gun. I want all the $100, $50 and $20. Don't call the police or I will come back for you." The teller gave $3,760 to the robber, who left on foot.

A witness told police that she saw the suspect riding a Metro Transit bus.

Officers arrested Kelly, who was holding $3,740 in cash. The remaining $20 had been used for bus fare.
