A second man is charged in a Minneapolis bank robbery.
A second man has been arrested and charged in connection with the takeover-style robbery of a U.S. Bank branch in south Minneapolis.
Michael Deon Hughes, 24, was charged Tuesday with first-degree aggravated robbery in the July 28 holdup of the U.S. Bank at 4930 34th Av. He was arrested Saturday and was being held in the Hennepin County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to jail records. He is scheduled to appear in Hennepin County District Court this afternoon.
According to the criminal complaint, police were led to Hughes by Curtis Devone Williams, who was arrested and charged last week in the case. No other information about Hughes' arrest was available.
Williams told police that Hughes entered the bank with one of the firearms, the complaint said. After checking surveillance video, police matched a picture of Hughes with footage of a man carrying a scoped rifle, the complaint said.
Upon his arrest, Hughes first denied he was involved, the complaint said, but he later told police he was the man carrying the rifle.
At least two other suspects are still being sought, and the Minneapolis police and the FBI are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call 612-673-2941.
