A motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash late Tuesday on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis, the State Patrol said Wednesday.

The cyclist, Bartholomew P. Leuer, 44, of Buffalo, was on the ramp from Hiawatha Avenue to westbound I-94 near downtown Minneapolis around 11:30 p.m. when his 2002 Honda left the road.

Leuer was not wearing a helmet, the patrol said, adding that alcohol was not a factor.

His death was the 281st fatality on state roads this year, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety. There had been 298 deaths at this time last year.
