A man was in custody in the fatal stabbing of another man Thursday evening in the Dinkytown neighborhood of Minneapolis, according to police.

The victim, who police believe was known to his attacker, was found suffering from stab wounds in a Honda sedan at 13th and University avenues SE. just after 7:30 p.m., according to police spokesman Corey Schmidt.

The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died.

Officers arrested a suspect at the scene, Schmidt said.

The motive is under investigation, but the two were friends or acquaintances, he said. They are not believed to have been students at the nearby University of Minnesota.

While classes at the university don't begin until Sept. 6, many students who have already moved into the area were out and about there Thursday evening. Several watched investigators work at the cordoned-off scene.

Police interviewed several witnesses at the scene.
