A Minneapolis man who led Brooklyn Park police on a chase reaching speeds of as high as 100 miles per hour late Sunday was wanted on a warrant out of Jackson, Miss., on charges of murder, aggravated assault and robbery. In addition, the man's 3-year-old daughter was in the car, and the car had no child seat, police said.
Charles Ronald Noel, 26, the child, another man and a woman were in the car near Edinburgh Centre Drive and 85th Avenue in Brooklyn Park around 11:20 p.m. Sunday when an officer tried to pull him over for making an improper turn, according to criminal charges. Noel took off south on Hwy. 252, running several red lights.
He got off the freeway at Dowling Avenue N. in Minneapolis and ran several stop signs as he drove down side streets.
As he tried to turn onto 14th Avenue, he crashed into a guardrail, where police caught him, the charges said.
Noel was charged in Hennepin County District Court with fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and child endangerment.
During the course of the investigation, Brooklyn Park police found that Noel's fingerprints matched those of a man named Charles Alexander Stovall, one of Noel's aliases, and that he is wanted in Mississippi, Roehl said. He was being held in the Hennepin County jail awaiting extradition to Mississippi. Details of the Mississippi case were not available Tuesday night.
