Death of man found lying in Minneapolis street is city's 37th homicide of the year.
Minneapolis police spent early Christmas morning investigating the city's 37th homicide of the year.
Police responded to a report of a man lying in the street about 5 a.m. at W. Lake Street and Pleasant Avenue S. on the border of the Lyndale and Whittier neighborhoods.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the body of Luis Figueroa-Morales, 28, of Minneapolis. He had been shot several times, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office
Police released few details Thursday. There are no suspects in custody.
The Minneapolis Police Department homicide unit is investigating.
The Police Department is asking that anyone with information about this case contact the TIPS line at 612-692-TIPS (8477).
There were 45 homicides in Minneapolis at this time last year. Thursday's homicide happened in the Police Department's Fifth Precinct, where there have been two other homicides this year.
