A fight between a group of men and a 19-year-old man outside a downtown Minneapolis strip club about two weeks ago ended when another man allegedly shot the victim in the head.
Jerrell Michael Brown, 21, of Minneapolis, was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Darius Ormond Miller.
About 3 a.m. on Aug. 30, Miller was outside of Whispers Nightclub, formerly known as the 418 Club, on the 400 block of 3rd Av. N. when a group of men began beating him, said Minneapolis police spokesman Sgt. Jesse Garcia.
Brown, who knew the men who were beating Miller, allegedly came from across the street with a gun and shot Miller in the head. Miller died on the sidewalk outside of the club.
"[The suspect] walks up like a wimp and fires a round in the guy," Garcia said. "This was a pretty cowardly act."
Brown, who fled after the shooting, was identified by witnesses and video surveillance.
Investigators compared shell casings from the Miller shooting to an earlier incident in which Brown was involved and determined that they were fired from the same gun.
He is in the Hennepin County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
