Construction crews have started on the foundation for the new Vikings stadium, excavating what was a parking lot adjacent to the Metrodome on Thursday. The team will play its last game in the Dome on Dec. 29 against the Detroit Lions, and the structure will be deflated in mid-January. The new stadium will be completed by the 2016 NFL season. Until then the Vikings will play at TCF Bank Stadium on the U campus.
