A convicted murderer has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the fatal shooting of a man five months ago at an apartment in south Minneapolis, authorities said Monday.

The arrest of the 34-year-old man from Cottage Grove occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday in the 4100 block of Hiawatha Avenue S., according to police.

The man is accused of killing Frank K. Patterson IV, 48, about 4:30 a.m. on March 4 during what authorities described as an invasion of the victim's apartment in the 2800 block of Cedar Avenue S., police said.

Patterson was shot in the abdomen and died about 40 minutes later at Hennepin County Medical Center.

In mid-April, police said they were looking for two suspects in the killing. There is no immediate word on whether anyone else is being sought.

The Star Tribune generally does not name suspects until they have been charged.

In 1996, the suspect in Patterson's death was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for fatally shooting a 22-year-old woman who had moved from Tennessee to Minneapolis less than 24 hours earlier. The gunfire came during an argument and was meant for two men, but it hit the woman instead.

The man was released from prison in 2011. He was 16 and already had an extensive criminal record when he killed the woman.
