A Minneapolis woman who kidnapped an acquaintance’s infant son last winter has pleaded guilty in exchange for what’s expected to be a three-year sentence.

Isabel Diaz-Castillo, 30, entered the plea to felony kidnapping Thursday in exchange for the 36-month sentence offered by prosecutors as a plea deal, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. She will be sentenced Aug. 19.

Diaz-Castillo will likely be deported after serving her sentence

Diaz-Castillo was charged in February, when prosecutors say she took 8-month-old Carlos Orozco from his Minneapolis home while his mother, Vicky Orozco, took a shower. Police found the baby in a nearby basement four hours later and arrested Diaz-Castillo, who refused to hand Carlos over to the officers, allegedly saying “That’s my baby!”

Vicky Orozco told police she met Diaz-Castillo at a laundromat about a month earlier, where Diaz-Castillo paid an unusual amount of attention to Carlos. She had been to the Orozcos’ south Minneapolis apartment several times and was supposed to arrive again that morning to lend Orozco some money when she took Carlos.
