One woman was killed and another woman was seriously injured early Saturday after shots were fired from a vehicle that pulled alongside the victims' car in north Minneapolis, police said.

As of Saturday evening, no arrests had been made.

Just after 2 a.m., Minneapolis emergency dispatchers received a call from someone in a vehicle, saying that friends had been shot at Washington Avenue N. and 26th Avenue N.

The caller said they were driving the victims to Hennepin County Medical Center, police said.

When the two victims arrived at the hospital, it was determined that four people had been in the car when another car pulled up next to it and someone fired shots.

One woman died at HCMC early Saturday evening after being on life support since arriving at the hospital, police said. The other woman's gunshot wound was life-threatening, but she is expected to survive, Sgt. William Palmer said.

Police did not release the names of either woman and did not provide a description of the vehicle from which the fatal shots were fired.

"No one is in custody and the homicide unit is exploring a number of avenues that may have led up to this shooting, and there is not a focus on one person or circumstance at this point in the investigation," Palmer said.
