Tickets for a Feb. 1 Minnesota Orchestra concert at the Minneapolis Convention Center will go on sale at noon Monday.

Music Director Osmo Vänskä will conduct the orchestra in the Sibelius Symphonies Nos. 2 and 5.

A recording of those symphonies by the orchestra and Vänskä has been nominated for a Grammy.

Mayor R.T. Rybak and longtime arts benefactor Judy Dayton came up with the idea of the concert as a way to celebrate the Grammy nomination and recognize the orchestra's place in the community. They invited the musicians, who are locked out in a labor dispute, and Vänskä to perform.

Rybak said he intends the event to take a step away from the dispute between union musicians and management.

Tickets, from $20 to $60, will be available at ticketworks or by calling 612-343-3390.

"Now it's time for this community to put its money where its mouth is," Rybak said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon. "I'm getting my tickets on Monday, and I encourage everyone who loves Minneapolis music and arts to do the same -- and to join me in buying a copy of the recording as well."

The Minnesota Orchestra has been nominated for best orchestral performance. The winner will be announced Feb. 10.

Copies of the Grammy-nominated recording are available for purchase on the Minnesota Orchestra website.
