A 25-year-old man shot and killed in north Minneapolis last week was robbed after winning several thousand dollars in gambling, according to a search warrant application.

Cordell Quinton Dalton of Brooklyn Park was found dead at the corner of 8th and Sheridan Avenues N. just before 5 a.m. Oct. 23 with his pockets turned inside out, according to the application filed Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court.

A 22-year-old man who was shot in the hand told police that he and Dalton were shooting dice for several hours at a house in the 800 block of Sheridan, along with two men they didn't know. According to the affidavit, the victim told police that Dalton was "winning and up several thousand dollars" before the two left at 4:45 a.m.

He told investigators that two men with masks approached them and immediately started shooting, according to the affidavit. He fled after being shot in the hand, while one of the suspects followed him with the gun for several blocks.

A woman who lives at the house said a man staying there was one of the men shooting dice there early that morning. She said he goes by the nickname of "Shawn" and travels between Minneapolis and Chicago. She told police that he left the home with two other men about 45 minutes before the shootings.

The warrant requested a search of the house and turned up paperwork, mailings, a digital scale and other items. No charges have been filed in the case.
