A 29-year-old man charged with fatally shooting two women in a St. Louis suburb surrendered early Friday to police in downtown Minneapolis, one day after authorities sought the public's help in finding the man.

Darnell X. Vaughn, of St. Louis, called 911 about 4:30 a.m. to turn himself in, according to Minneapolis Police Sgt. William Palmer. Officers arrested Vaughn, who was unarmed, near 3rd Avenue S. and 11th Street S., Palmer said.

Vaughn has been charged with murder in the fatal shootings of his estranged girlfriend and another woman in Ferguson, Mo. Police say both were shot in the head. Also arrested in Minneapolis in connection with Vaughn was DeAndre Galmore, 32, of St. Louis. He faces charges of hindering prosecution.
