Minneapolis work crews and fire department members surveyed the damage at a reported water main break between 10th and 11th Streets and Nicollet Mall. The break closed down Nicollet Mall in both directions.
A water main break Wednesday afternoon along Nicollet Mall closed a busy block along the downtown street at least through the overnight hours and cut water to a building, city officials said.
The damaged service line is near 10th Street, city spokesman Matt Lindstrom said.
Nicollet between 10th and 11th Streets was closed overnight "as a precautionary measure while crews assess the damage caused by the water line break at this property," Lindstrom said.
Work crews on the scene were working with the building's manager to fix the problem, Lindstrom added. Water service to that building has been halted, he said, adding that no other buildings are affected.
In the meantime, all Nicollet Mall public bus routes were being detoured between 10th and 11th.
"Things are changing frequently though," Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland said, adding that Metro Transit staff members were out "posting stops with instructions and providing assistance for customers."
