Pavement has buckled on one lane of westbound Interstate 94 near Dowling Avenue N., slowing rush-hour traffic headed out of downtown Minneapolis.

The buckling occurred in a part of the freeway where it has happened in the past on very hot days.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the pavement popped up just after 5 p.m., leading to closure of one of the lanes. Three other lanes remain open, and traffic was merging and slowly moving past the closed area just after 6 p.m.
