A man was killed and a woman hospitalized with gunshot wounds after someone opened fire on their car in north Minneapolis, police said late Saturday.
Police had been called to the busy intersection of Plymouth and Washington avenues at 6:20 p.m. on a report of a car accident.
When officers arrived, however, they found the people inside of the car had been shot, and bullet casings were recovered near the car, Sgt. John Sullivan said.
No suspects were arrested, he said.
The woman was in surgery Saturday night at Hennepin County Medical Center, but there was no word yet on her condition, Sullivan said.
About two weeks ago, another shooting occurred in north Minneapolis with a victim inside of a car, and it, too, was first reported as a traffic accident rather than a homicide.
In that case, 911 callers told police of hearing gunshots and seeing a car crashed at 43rd and Girard Avenues N.
That victim, Steven E. Meyer, 36, of Eden Prairie, died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
No one is in custody for Meyer's slaying, nor the double shooting on Saturday evening, police said.
