A south Minneapolis neighborhood was unsettled Sunday after a man was shot to death Saturday night.

The victim was found by police officers about 10:15 p.m. near the intersection of 44th Street E. and 33rd Avenue S. Residents who called 911 reported an argument in the street just before hearing gunshots, Sgt. William Palmer said.

The man's identity has not been released, and no arrests have been made. Police were in the neighborhood investigating Sunday afternoon.

Randell Tocholke, 25, who lives near where the shooting occurred, said he heard five shots about 10 p.m.

When he went outside, he said, he found a man who looked to be in his early 20s lying on his back. Tocholke said the man appeared to have three shots in the chest and another one in the face.

"It was pretty gruesome," he said.

He called 911, and his girlfriend gave the man CPR, but the man died before authorities got there, Tocholke said. Tocholke, who has been living on the block for only about a month, didn't know the man.

"I hear it's usually a quiet neighborhood," he said. "It's kind of crazy. It's the first I've seen anything like that."

Steven Clift, 42, who also lives nearby and is the executive director of community online forum E-Democracy.org, said the shooting has been a shock to the neighborhood.

"Is this real? Is this really on my block?" he asked.
