As completion of the Central Corridor light rail line connecting the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul reaches the one-third point, lanes of traffic on three key streets are scheduled to reopen by the end of the month, the project's managers announced.

In a newsletter released Wednesday, the Metropolitan Council said that crews intend to finish repaving and reopen four lanes of traffic on the western 3 miles of University Avenue in St. Paul, reopen 4th Street in its final configuration in downtown St. Paul and reopen Robert Street near the State Capitol.

Also announced was the renaming of four Central Corridor stations "to better reflect their locales ... and make the stations easier to recognize," the council said.

The renamed stations are:

• The 29th Avenue Station on 29th between SE. 4th Street and University Avenue in Minneapolis will be Prospect Park Station to reflect the park and neighborhood it will serve.

• The Rice Street Station on University Avenue just west of the Capitol will be Capitol/Rice Street Station.

• The Capitol East Station on Robert Street in St. Paul between University Avenue and 12th Street in front of the Orville Freeman and Harold Stassen state office buildings will be Robert Street Station.

• In downtown St. Paul, the 4th and Cedar Streets Station being built on the diagonal block between Cedar and Minnesota streets and 5th and 4th streets will be Central Station.

Construction of the 11-mile line began in late summer of 2010. Service is scheduled to begin in 2014.
