The annual People for Parks 5K to benefit Lake Harriet is back Sunday, with hopes of raising more money to maintain one of the metro area's most popular lakes.
This is the 6th annual Bandshell 5K, a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) run/walk/stroll. Proceeds from previous year's races provided an upgrade to the bandshell sound system, the repainting of the bandshell and picnic shelter in 2010 and the roof repair and repainting of the women's toilets this summer.
For the second year, participants can sign up in these categories:
• Family duo (parent or caregiver and child)
• Grandparent and child
• Family trio or more
• Biggest group.
• 11 a.m. on Sunday, after the early-morning City of Lakes 25K race.
• Check-in is at 10:30 a.m.
• Entry fees are $25.
• More details are at www.peopleforparks.net.
The Biggest Group will receive a bench at Lake Harriet with an inscription of their choice valued at $1,200, as long as they have a minimum of 20 people.
