Tornado aid donations will be matched

Minneapolis Foundation, United Way kicking into recovery fund

Individual donations to help north Minneapolis deal with the aftermath of Sunday's tornado are being matched by the Minneapolis Foundation and the Greater Twin Cities United Way.

The agencies have each pledged up to $100,000 in matches to the Minnesota Helps North Minneapolis Recovery Fund.

So far, contributions have reached about $103,000; matches have pushed the fund to more than $300,000.

Donations can be made online at www.GiveMN.org. Checks can be mailed to the Minneapolis Foundation at 800 IDS Center, 80 S. 8th St., Minneapolis, MN 55402-2115. For more information, call 612-672-3878.

The American Red Cross is also taking donations for its general disaster relief fund. Donations can be made at www.redcross.org or 1-800-RED-CROSS; people can also text the word "REDCROSS" to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Contributions also may be sent to the Twin Cities American Red Cross chapter at 1201 West River Pkwy., Minneapolis, MN 55454, or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.

Donations to the Salvation Army can be made online at via www.startribune.com/a426 or by sending a check to the Salvation Army, 2445 Prior Av. N., Roseville, MN 55113.

Also, callers can donate by credit card at 1-800-SAL-ARMY or by texting the word "BLESSING" to 85944.

Target Corp., meanwhile, has donated $50,000 to the Red Cross and Salvation Army to support their efforts in north Minneapolis.
