Three Minneapolis locks and dams on the Mississippi River were closed Tuesday to recreational boats because of potentially dangerous high water flows following heavy rain over the weekend.

The Upper St. Anthony Falls and Lower St. Anthony Falls locks and dams in downtown Minneapolis, and Lock and Dam No. 1 next to Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis, will be closed for about a week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' St. Paul District announced.

This is the second time this year that the locks and dams have been closed because of high water flow.

The corps is required to close the locks and dams because the high flows are unsafe for recreational boat navigation starting at 30,000 cubic feet per second.
