A pedestrian struck and killed by a light-rail train earlier this week in south Minneapolis has been identified as Gary X. Langlois of Minneapolis, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said Friday.
The medical examiner also has ruled that Langlois died as a result of the accident, which happened at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the 46th Street station when he was hit by a northbound train.
The medical examiner's office said Langlois, who was not carrying identification when he died, lived in an apartment on 33rd Avenue S. in Minneapolis.
The office also said that Langlois also went by the name Xavier Michael Hamm.
It's still unclear what led Langlois to be on the tracks, but Metro Transit Assistant General Manager Julie Johanson said at the time of the accident that it appeared all safety warnings were working at the station's crossing.
It was the second death at the 46th Street station and the fifth along the full line since the light-rail trains started running in 2004.
