A proposed revamping of the Minneapolis ordinance governing dangerous animals will be up for a public hearing on Wednesday.

The proposal comes to the City Council from a panel of city officials and animal owners. It follows such incidents as the near-fatal attack by a dog on Paula Ybarra in March at a neighbor's northeast Minneapolis home.

The proposal deals with terms, requirements, fees and fines for owners of dangerous and potentially dangerous animals.

Among other changes, the proposal would set new requirements on felons who own an animal that weighs more than 20 pounds or that poses a public safety danger if misused.

The public hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday in room 317 of City Hall, 350 S. 5th St.
