Mahamud A. Isse, a noted Somali writer and an accused child rapist, is the newest addition to Hennepin County's "Ten Most Wanted."

Isse, 72, of Minneapolis, is wanted on a felony bench warrant for criminal sexual content. The warrant carries bail of $300,000.

In January 2006, scores of Somalis rallied outside the county jail after he was charged with sexually assaulting a woman when she was 10 years old.

Isse brought candy to the woman, now 20, when she was a child living in Minneapolis, according to the complaint. He fondled the girl, who called him "uncle," and had sex with her, according to the complaint.

She moved to Washington state in 1997 and returned to Minneapolis in December 2005.

According to the complaint, she ran into Isse and he gave her his phone number. She called him and recorded a conversation in which he admitted having sex with her and said he wanted to see her again.

Isse, a playwright and poet whom one critic compared to Arthur Miller and Pablo Neruda, told authorities the conversation was a joke before admitting he had fondled the woman, according to the charges.
