Minneapolis, St. Paul schools closed again

St. Paul and Minneapolis public schools will be closed again Tuesday, district officials said Monday night.

The districts cited expected frigid weather and streets still clogged with snow from the weekend snowstorm.

Minneapolis schools cited "continued safety concerns for students waiting outside in extreme cold for buses that may run late and trying to get to school over large piles of snow in the street, as well as school bus travel problems across the city."

St. Paul school officials had similar concerns. "We still don't want our students out there when we can't guarantee on-time regular bus service," spokesman Howie Padilla said, adding, "It's pretty rare to have a school closure let alone two days in a row."

Both districts also canceled Tuesday's extracurricular activities, but said school board meetings scheduled for Tuesday night will still be held.
