Woodbury woman says the wrong meds gave her a stroke.
A Woodbury woman is suing Walgreen Co. for giving her the wrong prescription, allegedly causing her to suffer a stroke and permanent injury.
Court documents say Lillian Baymon was given Hydroxyzine, which is used to treat anxiety disorders and allergic conditions, instead of Hydralazine, which Baymon was prescribed to treat her high blood pressure.
Baymon's lawsuit alleges that Hydroxyzine is known to possibly raise blood pressure and that it exacerbated her condition.
Walgreen has denied the allegations in court filings.
Baymon's attorney, Michael Milo, confirmed that the suit was served on Walgreen months ago. Milo declined to comment on the case.
According to court documents: The Walgreen at 99 W. Maryland Av. in St. Paul filled the prescription on Nov. 25, 2005. Baymon's suit alleges that the actions were "improper, dangerous, negligent and reckless." She is seeking compensation for physical injuries and disability, emotional distress, pain and suffering, medical bills and lost wages.
Walgreen attorney Brian Wood could not be reached for comment. The company filed its response to the suit Thursday, stating, "... if the plaintiff [Baymon] suffered damages as alleged in plaintiff's complaint or otherwise, that said injuries or damages were caused or contributed to by the negligence or fault of others" over whom the defendant had no control."
