Blaine man dies in crash on I-694

A 19-year-old Blaine man was killed late Monday when the driver of the car he was riding in swerved to avoid something on Interstate 694 in the east metro area.

The man was ejected from the car after the driver lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over into a ditch, the Minnesota State Patrol said. The victim isn't being named until his family is contacted.

The crash happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on northbound I-694 at 10th Street in Oakdale, the patrol said.

The driver, Jonathon Staver, 20, of Brooklyn Park, and a passenger, Jessica Proctor, 24, of Brooklyn Park, were injured.
