Angelia Millender has been named the next president of Century College in White Bear Lake.

Millender, who is now president of Olive-Harvey College in Chicago, will start her new job in July. She was appointed Wednesday by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities board of trustees.

Chancellor Steven Rosenstone praised Millender as a passionate leader whose experience, particularly addressing the racial achievement gap, puts her "in perfect alignment" with Century College.

Century, a two-year school with 19,000-plus students, is one of the largest community and technical colleges in Minnesota. Millender will take over from Pat Opatz, who has served as interim president at Century since 2015, and will return to his previous role as vice president of finance and administration.

Millender has been president of Olive-Harvey, part of the City Colleges of Chicago System, for three years. She previously served as vice president of Broward College in Florida, and as a top administrator at Berkeley College in New York and Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh.
