A St. Paul man was sentenced Tuesday to 90 days in the county workhouse and two years' probation for moving a woman's body from his apartment.

John R. Stanton, 65, pleaded guilty in September in Ramsey County District Court to one count of interference with a dead body for allegedly moving Rahel Nigusse after she died, apparently of natural causes.

According to the complaint: Nigusse, 39, died on June 17 in Stanton's apartment on Minnehaha Avenue E. in St. Paul. Her body was discovered on June 21 behind the 1400 block of Reaney Avenue.

Police arrested and then released Stanton in connection with the investigation. He initially denied knowing anything about Nigusse's death, then said she was a friend and had been staying with him.
