A St. Paul teenager was sentenced Friday to a little more than 16 years in prison in a gang retaliation shooting that injured an innocent bystander.

Jurors convicted Pierre S. Glass, 18, in June of 10 felony counts in Ramsey County District Court, including two counts of attempted second-degree murder and several counts of assault.

Judge Joy Bartscher sentenced Glass to about 16 1/2 years in prison for one of the attempted murder convictions, and to almost 14 years in prison for the other. The sentences will run concurrently.

No sentences were given for the other convictions, which is common.

According to the complaint: Sitting in the back seat of a car, Glass fired shots into a group of young people near the 1800 block of Minnehaha Avenue about 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 30. He was aiming for a 16-year-old boy who had switched gangs from the Hit Squad, also known as the West Side Bloods, to the East Side Boyz.

Authorities believe Glass is a member of the Hit Squad.

"Are y'all ready?" Glass yelled, according to the complaint. "Who ready?"

Glass struck a 15-year-old girl. He exited the car and continued to fire. The girl survived, but at the time doctors decided to leave a bullet lodged in her chest.

Glass' intended target told police that he ran as Glass fired shots and as the car chased him.

Glass' criminal history includes convictions in juvenile court for disorderly conduct and two convictions for possession of a pistol or assault weapon, in 2012 and 2011.
