Arts briefs: 'Music by the Green' concert series tees off Aug. 6

“Music by the Green,” a series of free summer concerts 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights in August at River Oaks Golf Course, 11099 S. Hwy. 61, Cottage Grove, kicks off on Aug. 6 with singer-songwriter Tim Cheesebrow.

Cheesebrow also performs Aug. 20. His tunes are described as folky, memorable melodies with interesting guitar work. Preview the music at www.cheesebrowmusic.com.

On Aug. 13 and 27, Dave Snyder Acoustic Sounds will perform a mix of rock, country and Americana music. Preview the music at www.reverbnation.com/davesnyderacousticsounds.

Concerts are on the patio overlooking the golf course. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the music will be moved indoors.

Stillwater is theme of multiartist show

“Stillwater, An Artist’s View,” a multiartist show of all Stillwater-themed art, runs from Aug. 1-24 at Stillwater Art Guild Gallery, 402 N. Main, Stillwater.

An artist reception will be from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8 at the gallery.

More than 20 artists will have their unique interpretation of Stillwater on display in the River Room Gallery. Media includes oils, acrylics, pastels, graphite and photography.

A “Discover Stillwater Artist Award” will be presented to the artist whose piece best embodies the spirit of Stillwater. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. For information, call 651-689-0149.

Gallery features show, art meetups

Two events, the Annual Members Show and weekly Artful Meet-ups, are making for a busy summer at ArtReach St. Croix, 224 N. 4th St., Stillwater.

This year’s Members Show includes works by 55 artists, and will be on display through Aug. 23.

The Ikuta-Schodde Family Foundation supports three cash awards presented during the show. The River Moon Award went to David Browne of Stillwater for “Ice-Out,” a panoramic horizon created by using acrylic inks on plastic. The Board of Directors Award was given to Stillwater’s Charlotte Schuld for an acrylic painting “Waterfall Brink: Minnehaha Falls.”

A third cash award, The Audience Award, will be announced at 7 p.m. on Aug. 21. Each gallery visitor to the Annual Members Show is invited to cast one vote for their favorite artist or piece. The galleries at ArtReach St. Croix are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays.

The extended hours on Thursday evening will include the “Artful Meet-ups,” such as artist demonstrations, poetry readings and more. For details, go to www.StCroixSplash.org.
