A St. Paul man who drove the shooter in a 2011 killing was sentenced Friday to eight months in the Ramsey County workhouse and 20 years' probation.

Nicholas J. Kruse, 26, also was given an eight-year stayed prison sentence, meaning he won't serve prison time unless he violates his probation.

A jury acquitted Kruse earlier this year on charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder while committing a drive-by shooting and aiding and abetting unintentional murder. The jury was hung on the last charge, aiding an offender after the fact.

Kruse was charged as the getaway driver in the death of Dekoda M. Galtney, 24, who was shot in the chest on Sept. 28, 2011. According to charges, Kruse lied to police and concealed evidence of the shooting. The suspected gunman, Adrian R. Flowers, entered an Alford plea to second-degree unintentional murder in 2012 and was sentenced to 8½ years in prison.

According to charges: A witness who had been riding in Galtney's car said that they had gotten into an altercation with Flowers and others earlier in the day. Another witness told police that Kruse and Flowers were best friends.

Kruse pleaded guilty in September to aiding an offender after the fact.

Also on Friday, Ramsey County District Judge Patrick Diamond sentenced Kruse in a separate case for receiving stolen property.
