A man shot in the head outside a bar in St. Paul's Dayton's Bluff neighborhood died at Regions Hospital early Saturday, and two other victims were recovering from gunshots, according to police and bar employees.

Police were called to the Moonshine Saloon at 1129 E. 7th St. at 1:19 a.m. on a report of gunfire.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday evening, police said.

The bar had been packed on a karaoke night late Friday and early Saturday, with loud music, Halloween decorations and peaceful partyers, kitchen manager Tony Xiong said Saturday afternoon. "We didn't even know what happened until [the victims' friends] came running inside," he said.

Bouncer Sher Vang said he first noticed something was awry when a man ran into the bar and told his friends that someone was hurt. Vang followed them outside and found three people lying on the sidewalk on the west side of the building.

Most gravely wounded was a man who comes in two to three times a week and has never caused trouble, Vang said. The man's friends called 911 and one of them was using his hands to trying to stop bleeding from a bullet wound in the back of the man's head, the bouncer said.

Nearby lay a man and woman whom Vang said he'd never seen before. The woman was shot in the arm, and the man appeared to be shot in his arm and leg, he said. Vang said he didn't see anyone fleeing.

Security workers tended to the victims while other employees locked both doors to keep the crowd inside until the scene was safe.

On Saturday afternoon, Vang pointed to deep chips where he believed three bullets hit the redbrick building. He and other employees didn't know until a reporter told them that the most seriously injured man had died. "Oh man, that's sad," he said.

On Feb. 23, a 28-year-old St. Paul man died of stab wounds in a fight at the same bar.
