A 26-year-old Oakdale man is in custody suspected of killing the owner of a St. Paul bar early Sunday morning.

Police haven't said why Vone Moua, 45, was shot at Malina's Sport Bar, but they say it was not a random incident. Two other men were also shot at the bar by the same assailant, but police said their injuries weren't life-threatening.

Moua, who was also a social worker, had owned the bar at 691 N. Dale St. for at least 10 years.

Police went to Malina's about 2:40 a.m and found three men shot in the bar. Medics took the victims to Regions Hospital, where Moua died. One man was treated and the other admitted and treated for injuries.

According to jail booking records, the shooting suspect was arrested around noon Sunday at a home in the West Seventh neighborhood.

Monday at the house, family members of the suspect said he showed up there in the morning, before police arrived and arrested him without a struggle. Relatives said they didn't know what happened at the bar.

Police have been called to Malina's more than 170 times in the last five years. In many cases, officers were making proactive visits, but fights and other disturbances weren't uncommon. In the last few years, the city Department of Safety and Inspections has taken several actions against the bar for license violations over the last few years, including suspending the bar's licenses for 12 days last year for a 2011 violation in which the owners allowed alcohol consumption after hours.

St. Paul police continue to investigate what led to Sunday's shooting.
