Old-time base ball teams in action

The St. Croix Base Ball Club, an educational program of the Washington County Historical Society, will be playing the Milwaukee Cream Citys at the Pioneer Village in Cameron, Wis., at 11 or 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 9. The Afton Red Socks will also be participating in the tournament.

The Pioneer Village, operated by the Barron County (Wis.) Historical Society, will be the site for five vintage base ball clubs over the coming weekend. Vintage Base Ball is played by the rules of 1860. Some of the rules at that time are that players play without gloves; the batter is out if the ball is caught on the fly or first bounce; the pitcher pitches the ball to where the batter wants it and there are no called balls or strikes.

This is the 16th season for the St. Croix Base Ball Club, which has members from around the Twin Cities area. For more about the St. Croix Base Ball Club, call the Washington County Historical Society at 651-439-5956 or visit www.wchsmn.org and click the Vintage Base Ball section to find the rest of the schedule for 2013.
