St. Paul police said Chue Lor, right, killed his wife, Panhia Yang, and her brother with a sharp object.

Chue Lor killed his wife and her brother Sunday with a sharp object before dying himself, authorities said Tuesday.

The cause and manner of Lor’s death remains under investigation, pending toxicology tests. Police did not say what type of weapon was used on his wife, Panhia Yang, 27, and her brother, Kong Meng Lee, 18.

Police were called to the couple’s apartment complex in the 500 block of Victoria St. N. about 4:30 p.m., where they found all three deceased. Lor’s family members said that Yang left Lor, 31, about a week ago, and returned Sunday with her brother to pick up some clothes and discuss splitting their income tax return.

The couple’s four children, ages 9 to 3, and Lor’s mother, Mai Thao, were home at the time. Thao said that Lor got down on his knees, grabbed his wife’s leg and tearfully begged her to stay as Yang gathered clothes in the bedroom. Thao ushered the children out of the room. Thao said she returned to the room to find Lor, Yang and Lee embroiled in a violent fight.

Lor was the caretaker of the apartment complex.
