College student killed in chain-reaction car wreck in east metro

Last update: May 23, 2008 - 10:58 PM

A car that went out of control on an east metro freeway and overturned was struck by two other cars, killing the driver in the first vehicle, authorities said Friday.

The driver who died has been identified as Deanne E. Binde, 21, of Lake Park, Minn. Binde was a student at Goshen College in northern Indiana, the school said this afternoon.

The other motorists escaped with either minor injuries or no injuries at all, the State Patrol said.

The chain of events began about 10:25 p.m. Thursday night on westbound Interstate 94 in Woodbury, when a Plymouth Sundance drifted into the median, struck a barrier, overturned and came to a rest in the left-hand lane, the State Patrol said.

Two other westbound cars struck the Sundance and killed its driver, the patrol said. The Sundance was totaled and the two other cars were severely damaged, the patrol said.
