Teams of not-so different color

What are the most popular color combinations at Minnesota high schools? A database prepared by John Soma, athletic director at Woodbury High School, shows the top five choices:

1. Red and black at 42 schools

2. Blue and gold tied with red and white at 38 schools

3. Blue and white at 37 schools

4. Orange and black at 35 schools

5. Maroon and gold at 33 schools

And the least-common combinations?

• Brown and gold

• Green, red and gold

• Green, red and white

• Green and navy blue

• Navy blue and orange

ANOTHER'S CHOICE

Chanhassen High School, which will open in 2009 in Carver County, chose navy blue and gold for its Storm team colors. Fourteen high schools have those colors.
