The condition of a woman pulled from a car submerged in the icy St. Croix River in April was upgraded to serious Wednesday.

Kalaiselvi Vijayakumar, 25, had been in critical condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul since she was admitted after the April 13 accident.

No information was available about the other accident survivor, Deepa Vellusamy, also 25. Hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Kovacich said the hospital has been asked not to release any more information on Vellusamy. She was last reported in fair condition on Friday.

Two other occupants in the car -- Mohanraj Pothiraj, 28, and Rohini Krishnamurthy, 27 -- died from complications of hypothermia and near drowning.

All four are from India and employees of Infosys Technologies, a global software company headquartered in Bangalore. They had been working in the Twin Cities at Ameriprise Financial offices in Minneapolis.

The four friends went to Stillwater on April 13 to do some sightseeing. About 10 p.m., their rented sport-utility vehicle veered off a dirt road and into the river, about a quarter-mile north of the Stillwater lift bridge.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
