A 47-year-old woman was beaten to death in an apartment in northwestern Wisconsin, and the man who lived there was jailed on suspicion of killing her, authorities said.

The body of Kari G. Roberts was found by officers about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in her apartment in Milltown, about 50 miles northeast of the Twin Cities, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

A 45-year-old man was arrested at his mother's home on a bail bond violation because tests determined he had been drinking, the Sheriff's Office said. Charges in connection with Roberts' death were expected no later than Wednesday.

According to the Sheriff's Office:

A caller to 911 said an ambulance was needed at a Main Street apartment because someone was badly hurt.

Officers entered the apartment and discovered Roberts dead from an apparent beating.

The man who lived there was located at his mother's home, which is also where the 911 call originated.

The man admitted making the call and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. A preliminary breath test confirmed he had been drinking, a bond violation related to three open felony cases against him.

After being taken into custody, the man's statements about Roberts' injuries "were inconsistent," the Sheriff's Office said.
