The death toll is now three from a rear-end collision last week near Hudson, Wis., where a vehicle with four teenage boys hit a semitrailer truck that was stopped in a construction zone.

Zachary D. Zajec, 17, of New Richmond, Wis., died Monday at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, the Wisconsin State Patrol said.

Zajec, who was driving, had suffered severe head and chest injuries in the crash on July 30 along eastbound Interstate 94 a few miles east of Hudson.

Front-seat passenger Joshua J. Goodrich, 17, and Jordan M. Johnson, 16, who was seated in back, also died in the crash.

Another back-seat passenger, Thomas J. Wanless, 17, suffered minor injuries. All but Johnson were wearing their seat belts, the patrol said. All four attended New Richmond High School.

The truck's driver, Paul A. Davis, 34, of Cadott, Wis., was not injured.
