Ramsey County residents have until Aug. 17 to enroll in the fall session of the Community Emergency Response Team Program (CERT) training.

Participants must commit to nine training sessions held every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 12.

Classes will be in Arden Hills, Vadnais Heights and St. Paul.

Participants must be at least 18 years old and pass a criminal background check. Equipment and materials are free. The class is limited to 25.

The Sheriff's Office and emergency professionals lead the training of community members to respond to catastrophic situations with instruction in fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, medical operations and terrorism. Trainees learn to handle disaster responses in case emergency services aren't immediately available.

To apply, contact the county CERT training coordinator at 651-266-7332 or e-mail cert@co.ramsey.mn.us.
