A multi-vehicle crash about eight miles east of Hudson, Wis., closed westbound lanes of Interstate 94 for about six hours on Thursday.

The highway was blocked into the evening rush hour after two semi trucks and three automobiles were involved in the crash shortly before noon near Roberts, Wis.

Some people were airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with serious injuries, the Wisconsin State Patrol said. Further details on their conditions were not available by early evening.

Even after a detour was set up, traffic in the westbound lanes of I-94 was backed up for several hours, said Chris Ouellette, a spokeswoman for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
