3 ransack Roseville group home, beat up caretaker

Roseville police are seeking the public's help in finding three men who ransacked a group home for vulnerable adults and beat up a staff member before running away with a resident's bank card and cash.

Police say the three men forced their way into a group home in the 2800 block of Lexington Avenue in Roseville Thursday evening and demanded cash and narcotics.

When a staff person said they didn't have any, one of the suspects beat him over the head several times with a pistol, Roseville police spokesman Lorne Rosand said.

The suspects then ransacked the home, ripping phone lines from walls, grabbing residents' cellphones and warning them not to call police, Rosand said.

They forced one resident to give them her bank card and her card's personal identification number.

The suspects later were videotaped at a convenience store making cash withdrawals on the stolen bank card.

"It's disturbing in the sense that ... in most situations, [vulnerable adults] don't have a lot as far as cash goes," Rosand said. "None of us can figure out why they targeted that group home. Only the suspects can answer that question."

The injured staff person was treated at a hospital for minor head injuries.
