The small theater troupe was founded 38 years ago by Pat Bettendorf, who is still its leader and biggest booster.

At the outset, the group performed in USO shows from Maine to Alaska, as well as in Minnesota. Its performances at veterans hospitals culminated in an invitation by President Ronald Reagan to celebrate the USO's 40th anniversary in Washington, D.C.

In recent years, funding problems have limited the troupe's scope to children's hospitals, senior centers, high-rises, nursing homes and other venues closer to home. The group needs money to cover transportation costs, costumes, props and more.

Auditions for the troupe's next show, "Dog Park," will be in January. See www.ducksoupplayers.com or call 651-433-4039.
