The young father called his wife, saying he had been kidnapped by two men.
Ramsey County authorities are trying to locate a Shoreview man who called his wife in hushed tones Friday evening and said two men had kidnapped him.
The Sheriff's Office checked leads for a day, and finding nothing to disprove the claim, issued a nationwide missing person alert for Matthew William Anderson, 29, said Ramsey County Undersheriff George Altendorfer.
Anderson was last seen about 1:30 p.m. Friday at Rosewood Village Apartments in Roseville, where he is a maintenance man.
He called his wife about 7 p.m. Friday saying he had been kidnapped by two men and was somewhere in Iowa. Police tracked the call on his cell phone to near Wisconsin Dells, which was puzzling, Altendorfer said.
He said Anderson has no criminal record and no purchases have been charged or no funds removed from the family's accounts.
The couple have a young child who Anderson failed to pick up from day care Friday afternoon, his wife said. She knew of no reason why her husband would leave and "believes he is in peril," Altendorfer said. The wife said Anderson's voice was hushed, his words clipped and the cell died after she heard him saying, "No, no, no," Altendorfer said.
Anderson is white, wears glasses, is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He was driving a maroon 2001 Pontiac Montana van, with Minnesota plate 922 DUZ.
Anyone with information on Anderson or his van is asked to call the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office at 651-266-7322.
