A bug-infested chemical dependency treatment center in Stillwater was ordered to "correct the infestation" by state officials, according to a report released Thursday by the Office of Health Facility Complaints.

Cedar Ridge, a 34-bed facility, hired exterminators 86 times over the last two years and heat-treated the clothing of clients. The exterminators got rid of roaches, ants, mice, spiders and other pests, but bedbugs continue to crop up in both dormitories, according to the report. The facility told investigators that the infestation worsened after they replaced carpeting in both dormitories in late 2009. Eight clients sought medical treatment for bedbug bites. Five clients quit treatment early because of the infestation, according to the report, which was based on a November inspection. State officials said the facility failed to provide adequate pest control measures. The bedbug situation was also brought to the attention of the state in February 2009, but no on-site investigation was conducted and no violations were issues because the facility said they were correcting the problem.
